Acculturation of Children from Very Early Childhood to Age Six

Paideia Parenting plans to offer a classical education in parenting for new, wannabe & established or not so established families in Victoria BC. It is based on the Paideia of 5th C BCE, Athens Greece. It was their answer to resolving the cultural discord in their civil society and the Problem of War which wasted the ‘man-youth’ of civil Athenians in their close knit privileged society.
Today, there is no school system for the custom of family formation in Canada. For the period of child development ie from three months preconception to age six, no practice of parenting skills is promulgated. The practice of parenting skills in Canada is unheard of. Even when scant parenting standards adhere to the necessity of self-affirming infant acculturation are available. the are not practiced in our Canadian culture.
The Greek Classical Education of the past, was founded on the Trivium and the Quadrivium. Those two books of exemplary wisdom convey values based on the Scientific Method, Aristotle’s crowning achievement and consolidating it while a student in Plato’s Socratic School. He developed and perfected it for all posterity. All told, it is an enduring discipline coded by the Greeks they called Paideia; in Greek it means “Acculturation”.
The ancients of Athens’ Society has bequeathed it to the World.
It is known today as the foundation of encoded social custom for acculturating & affirming self respect in the individual citizen of Athens Greece, a self governing people. Today, I posit the Paideia is the reason Israel and Britain are without a written constitution. Particularly because they are historically unilingual cultures.
Buddists’, Sikh’s and Confucians all adopted the same policy of care for their children in the same century of history. There is evidence in the 5th and 4th C BCE, the Aztec civilization did too. those who cared and governed their society began to see human beings as having a special purpose that enriches human communities.
With the Paideia cultural foundation fading for Canada. In its development missed enlisting the Paideia tradition. But our purpose at the Paideia Parenting School is to resurrect the practice of very early education overseen by parents employing our trained Metics. Incidentally the parents should also enrol!
There is An Epidemic of Child Abuse in Canada
In Canada, we know at least 37% of all children are severely abused within the privacy of family. A lack of knowledge & customary tradition of Paediatric care in community & family care is endemic. For this, learning the Paideia principles are required!
Presently in Canada there is a period in a child’s life when education is the sole prerogative of its parents. By habit or tradition new parents are expected to know how to ‘do the right thing in caring for a child’. They and we are bereft of any formal acculturation training for parents and or caregivers, right at the most urgent time of a new-born’s early life!
Our Paideia Parenting School’s mission is to help parents, caregivers & extended family to learn the secrets of a Classical Education as conveyed to infants and toddlers in the tradition of the Paideia. And Make it Their Own for a lifetime!
This science based insight of the Paideia points to an urgent need to mediate and reduce the inherent cruelty and self harm buried, hidden in our Canadian society. We at Paideia Parenting have formulated a cogent plan to begin and propagate solutions today to remediate this horrific circumstance in all communities across Canada.
The original research of Offord Institute of McMaster University et al, is the ‘go to’ cohort for researchers who are able to corroborate and act to some extent on this dire theme. UBC’s H.E.L.P. [Human Early Learning Partnership] participates mightily, along with others. Yet, there is still a missing period of formal education in our communities.
From federally funded research this institution and others contribute knowledge and expertise on how to mitigate this endemic maltreatment of children within their families. That ‘Paideia Period’ is minimally four years duration; beginning 3 months before conception to the traditional time for entry into pre-school. A total of 48 months.
We call this critical juncture, the Paideia Period. It is especially reserved for for inculcating and acculturating oneself and ones child in the critical learning juncture of the early years of life.
We have set our task to build and manage a family affirming curriculum; to establish a Canadian network of schools for training ‘Paideia Family Care Aides’; to introduce persistent customs of family care in which society will have a welcome role; to form and introduce federal policy in which the Paideia Period is adopted nationally as an institution of education and care for families.
Ultimately a a fully trained ‘live in’ Paideia Caregiver will be assigned to each family full time for the duration of each family child rearing plan. For those who plan to bear and raise children.
Our plan is called ‘Paideia Parenting’. It is primarily applied to the ‘Paideia Period’. And it is intended to train all Canadians but particulaly the caregivers whole guide the parenting in home for pre-borns, infants and toddlers. Ideally they will also be family nursing specialists with who have completed our professional development curricula of Paidiea Parenting our Victoria School Location.
